Fall and Winter wools. It's that time again!

Hey!

Well, I know as well as anyone that wool is the choice fabric for cold weather.  With new fabrics in for Fall, you would also notice that those typical Fall colours for fabrics are also back.

I was patiently waiting for the Vogue patterns to come into the store and finally it did,  when I was looking around Fabricland for a fabric to make 8928 with I looked at the wool gabardine/suiting and found this lovely light sage green colour.  It may also remind you of fallen leaves.

Anyway, I also decided on making Vogue 8928 because as much as I love skirts I felt that this one in particular struck a chord and I thought

" This is sophisticated and well perhaps a little revealing but let's put it together!"

Plus, I don't have this style.  It makes for a recipe for BUILD YOUR WARDROBE syndrome.  And, why not?  I think this can be used on a lunch or dinner date.  I can't be certain about an interview skirt but who really has say on that?

Anyway, I decided on making view C.  This view had the perfect length and I guess "sexiness" built into it.  Now in my opinion, a pair of long legs is a bonus, as this would enhance the skirts intention but anyone can wear it.
Oh and let's not forget that a good pair of shoes goes hand in hand here.

OK.  Let us discuss one thing about the lining.  Since in this case you have a definite R and L front piece, the lining for the front pieces are reversed.  I followed the directions and since the R front on the fashion fabric is the right side, the lining is reversed so that when you attach the lining it will be your left, then once it goes to the inside the lining will be correct.  Basically the lining is a mirror image of your fashion fabric.  Be sure about this before you do any finishing and hems and what not.  I went through reversing my R and L sides.  Lots of unnecessary work....Maybe I should read the fabric layout....that should absolve me of any pointless endeavors.

But enough chit-chat, here are my finished picks of view C.

I also decided to change a couple of things here:

  1. The waist band area.  I decided that the idea of using a ribbon was "TACKY".  Not with a wool fabric! The company could have showed that instead of covering that with a large belt.
  2. I top stitched 4 equal rows between the points of attachment from the two front pieces.  I then used buttons for a decorated finish. Completely non-functional.  To achieve even rows of stitching, I used my edge stitch foot.  I used the stitched rows as a reference for the next.
  3. As always I used an invisible zipper.  I really don't like the method they suggest.
  4. I also had to change the attachment points for the two fronts because I lost weight. But not quite enough to cut out a smaller pattern size of 16.

Anyway, that is my version of the new Vogue pattern 8928 for Fall/Winter 2013.  I think this colour is versatile because it should go with so many shirts and shoes I already own it's CRAZY!!!

Bye!!!
